Cost Comparison of Methyl Bromide and ProFume for Fumigating a Food Processing Facility A Report to National Pest Management Association and Dow AgroSciences
نویسنده
چکیده
Costs of fumigating a food processing/warehouse facility using Methyl Bromide and ProFume are compared using an economic-engineering approach. The two fumigants are also compared for fumigating cocoa beans.

Stored Grain Advisor Pro: Decision support system for insect management in commercial grain elevators
A decision support system, Stored Grain Advisor Pro (SGA Pro) was developed to provide insect pest management information for wheat stored at commercial elevators. The program uses a model to predict future risk based on current insect density, grain temperature and moisture. A rule-based system was used to provide advice and recommendations to grain managers. The software was tested in a resea...
متن کاملUnited States Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Research Service research on alternatives to methyl bromide: pre-plant and post-harvest.
Methyl bromide is a widely used fumigant for both pre-plant and post-harvest pest and pathogen control. The Montreal Protocol and the US Clean Air Act mandate a phase-out of the import and manufacture of methyl bromide, beginning in 2001 and culminating with a complete ban, except for quarantine and certain pre-shipment uses and exempted critical uses, in January 2005. In 1995, ARS built on its...
متن کاملHexadecyl Trimethyl Ammonium Bromide-Modified Montmorillonite as a Low-Cost Sorbent for the Removal of Methyl Red from Liquid-Medium
In this study, montmorillonite (MMT) modified by a cationic surfactant (Hexadecyltrimethyl ammonium bromide, HDTMA) was used as adsorbent to the removal of methyl red (MR) from aqueous solution. The effect of different parameters includes surfactant loading rate, contact time, pH, adsorbent dosage, and initial MR content was investigated on the sorption. The sorption capacity was increased by i...
متن کاملTime-mortality relationships for Tribolium castaneum (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) life stages exposed to elevated temperatures.
The use of elevated temperatures (> or = 40-60 degrees C) or heat treatments for managing insects in food-processing facilities is a viable alternative to space fumigation with methyl bromide. Quantitative data are lacking on the responses of life stages of the red flour beetle, Tribolium castaneum (Herbst), an important pest of food-processing facilities worldwide, to elevated temperatures use...
متن کاملThe Preparation of Updated Vegetation Maps by Processing Satellite Images: A Way in Sustainable Management of Agriculture
An important factor in sustainable agriculture and economic management is to calculate areas under different crops that the inputs of agriculture connect to this topic. Planning of agricultural mechanization, fertilizer and pesticide requirements, pests and diseases control, estimates of agricultural production, income and tax and financial planning, all linked to the cultivated areas and estim...
